Readius Combines Cell Phone and eBook Reader

ReadiusThe Readius, a new device from Polymer Vision, points a path to the integration of flexible screens, wireless Internet connections, and dynamically updated content.

The Readius, which combines a rollable 5-inch screen using E Ink technology and a GSM mobile phone, is designed to be both an eBook reader and a mobile phone with music player. Thanks to its screen, it’s small and portable, despite have a big, easy-to-read screen. And, since it’s got a data connection thanks to the built-in phone, it can update the device’s content from the Internet.

Users of the device won’t quite get the unfiltered Internet – content is selected and pushed to the device through a portal, rather than a web browser. Still, the portal does allow subscriptions to RSS feeds and audio podcasts, and supports email.

This is a first-generation device, but it’s exciting. Add a color screen to it and I think we’ll really be talking.
