Read&Go WiFi Reader Hits France

Orange Read&GoOrange, the French telecom company, has released the Read&Go, its Internet-connected ebook reader, to 150 testers. The device offers a big, clear screen, 1GB of storage, and 3G and WiFi wireless Internet access.

While the Read&Go has just a greyscale screen and is only in the testing phase – not yet available for general purchase – it demonstrates the directions in which both hardware company and service/software companies like Orange are expecting wireless gadgets to go.

It’s a virtual certainty that these kind of devices will eventually add hi-res color screens and more memory. When they do that, they’ll not just be useful for reading text like ebooks and newspapers, but they’ll also be ideal platforms for services like FrameChannel that stream content like news, scores, and photos to them.

Future devices could even sport touch interfaces thanks to a new breakthrough by Epson and E Ink.
