TiVO and Domino’s Pizza have teamed up to deliver the ultimate in online/offline integration – TiVO users can now order pizza from the couch, using their remote controls.
The new feature is free to all TiVO users and is live already. All users need to do is create an account at Dominos.com and then log into it via TiVO to place their orders.
Convergence centering on the TV has been a major trend in recent years, and figures to continue to be as our home entertainment (and eating!) options move to the Internet and become more connected. With set top boxes like the TiVO, not only can users rent movies and stream them to the TV, they can stream music, photos, and, in some cases, web content.
Set top boxes seem likely to continue to get increased capabilities over the next few years – and, it seems to me, that the companies that will win the space will offer the best experiences and the most compelling array of features. Media features will be key, of course, but interesting extensions like ordering pizza could also help crown the winners.
